I've been trying to load a pwnagetool cooked version of the iPad 4.3 GM, but whenever I try to actually load the firmware via itunes I get an error 1 that pops up as soon as the white apple logo appears on the iPad. This is both in recovery mode and DFU mode. I've tried this with both windows and mac version of the program with no success. Can anyone shed any light? I also tried pwn'd dfu mode with iREB and get the same result.

I click my bookmark (http://www.spymac.com/gallery) to go and take a quick look around the oh-so-slow Spymac galleries, and look what now welcomes you when you first visit the site, a bloody great sales pitch   Same thing happens if you go to the front page. It only seems to come up when you first visit, and if you leave, but don't close your browser it will not be there if you go back again. But if you quit your browser then go back you will be greated by it again.

Spymac have now totally gone down the comercial pan.

edit: oh, and btw, we need to arrange to hunt down the dude "modeling" the shirt and wipe that grin off is face ;) :D

Thanks for that. Yes it's going to be my first SLR. Parents are willing to stretch to whatever as I never ask for much usually anyways and I'm the kind of person who would prefer to save the money and buy things myself etc.

I know about Tamron and Sigma lens too, I've been looking at those as well. I wasn't sure if 18-55 would be enough and that I might need a new lens in the near future. I forgot to mention, I'm also going on Holiday visiting Hong Kong, China area and before going I'll be playing around with the camera to make sure by the time I go on holiday I'll get the best shots etc.

I'm not sure what Aperture is, as I don't have a Mac is it a photo editing software if so I'm pretty good on photoshop and I'm not expecting to edit my photo too much using those programs as I prefer to take the picture and show it off as it is.

Yeah, I don't really touch my photos in Aperture, you can retouch them and apply effects if you want, but it's mainly for cataloging photos. Kind of like Adobe Lightroom. When I first started out with my Sony, I used it to make smart albums based on a few focal lengths and decide what I wanted to have better, After my niece was born, it was clear that the lens I needed was a 50mm with a big aperture... It is also a lot more useful than those few things - along with Lightroom (just Lightroom is 3 or 4 times the price).

I really like using the far end of my 55-200 in street photography, something I'll be doing a lot more of when I move to NY, as it has a nice reach on it for getting fairly candid photos of people. My 50mm lens is great for getting portraits and is awesome in low light.

You sound like you have your head screwed on in terms of your parents, that's how I was. :)

The 18-200 would be a good option though.

How is this thread ridiculous? Is someone on here already tried any of those and it didn't work or did work. Perhaps they can share with us. Nothing ridiculous about it.
And you see, i got the answers for the replies above

    I don't really understand the co-location services

I always got the impression that this was something that was driven by the service providers rather than the customers. Compared to even the cheapest 1U and blade rackmounts, the Mac mini works out better on the triplet ratio of CPUs, cost and cubic feet.

The most powerful PPC cards are the Nvidia 7800GT or ATI 1900XT. They are pretty much on par performance wise.

They require a PCIe slot, though, which I'm not sure your G5 has. Only the late 2005 models are equipped with this slot. All previous G5 models have a AGP slot, in which case you should settle with a Nvidia 6800 Ultra. However, if you can find one, a flashed PC 7800 for AGP (usually on ebay) will be your best bet.

Is it strange that I am more excited about iWork than iLife anymore as the only iLife app I use is iPhoto? I use Pages and Keynote all the time. Heck, I only use Word when absolutely necessary, and even though I'd like to see an Apple spreadsheet app in iWork, Excel is the best Micro$haft app. My business oriented mind does have that special place for Excel....

Okay, so here's hoping for a better iWork today, and that STeve gives it more time this year than the 15 seconds he did last year.

Yep--the white 5.5G lives in the SoundDock, the black 5G did live in the car but will be gotten rid of in favor of the new 7G classic, the mini I just love--my first iPod was a silver mini that I had for three years but then lost, then feeling nostalgic I found this one NIB on ebay last year so I had to pick it up. The 7G Classic in the case is my normal everyday iPod, as are the three nanos. So I'm a little overboard on my everyday iPods, as I certainly don't need four, but the nanos are prime and the classic is just the best...I just couldn't decide on a nano color.:o

There should be a -1000 button for threads like these... Or - "Lowest Ranked".
the OP's post was obviously in jest and quite funny. are you that humorless about apple projects that you can't have a little fun?

Well Soundtrack is being bundled with FCPexpress, which makes more sense to me, since Soundtrack was hardly embraced by the pro community, to the aspersions of Logic and BIAS.

My new display has a Mini DisplayPort, but my computer has a DVI connection. I didn't read the tech specs closely and now I have a display that can't connect to my computer. I've read about the Atlona dual link converter, but I've heard that will only work if my graphics card (ATI Radeon HD 2600) supports the resolutions that are available with the display. (I made a mistake in the subject line - my mac pro is early-2008.)

What resolutions does the 27" have, such that I may check that against my current graphic card?

I'm also thinking about just buying a new graphics card. What graphics card will both work with my computer and with the 27" display?

(The page for the ATI Radeon HD 5770 (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC742ZM/A?mco=MTY3ODQ5OTY) at the Apple Store says mid-2010, but my Mac is early-2008. Additionally, my System Profiler says I have PCIe, whereas the previously-mentioned card need PCI Express 2.0. Are these incompatible?)

I'm a but stupid about these things, so thanks for any help.

The ATI Radeon HD 5770 doesn't work with the ACD27". I know it has DisplayPort, but there is a bug with various ATi 5xxx cards which makes them incompatible. It is an ATi issue and there is NO fix.

That being said, all ATI 5xxx EYEFINITY 6 cards with DisplayPort work. All AMD Radeon 6xxx cards with DisplayPort work. And all nVidia GeForce cards with DisplayPort work. You can get a nice GeForce card w/ DP for $150. And any modern video card will support 2560x1440. Any DisplayPort video card on newegg will work for you as long as it isn't an ATi Radeon 5xxx card. You could also buy an Atlona DP400 but its $150, the same as a new video card (ripoff).

I guess Judgment Day is over, but how will I know whether or not to come up out of this bunker?

Just in case I think I'll stay down here. I have a 3-year supply of water and canned food.

Is this why we have a ratings system now?

    Peas.

Ok, we are getting somewhere. When I press play after hitting capture now, the video starts playing. When I hit ESC to stop it, it does stop, but nothing happens. no dialog boxes asking me what to name it, and nothing appears in the browser.

The iMovie thing does work, but I'd rather do it "the right way." :)

Edit: I have got it working (thanks for all your help) but I still am doing it manually in the sense that it does not stop when there is a cut in the tape. I'd like to get each clip every time I started to record, and it is too hard to do manually. Should I just get out of this iMovie mindset or is it possible to do this?

I've been using Keynote lately for work presentations. It's annoying not to be able to give them to PC co-workers. PPT such a piece of crap, and i'd like to be able to use keynote more, but sadly it's not super useful anywhere other than my computer.

    My first post here!
I use Keynote to create presentations for other users on our otherwise Windoze network. I tried exporting to Flash, but most of the nice looking stuff gets replaced by dissolves. I now export to Quicktime using custom settings depending on application. You still get the basic interactivity- and the good looks. (PPT users are still doing their red on blue ghastly designs with slide in/out transitions!)
